This past two weeks has been a real education for me in accepting unexpected twists and turns of life. In Jamaica for our beach holiday, we found ourselves nursing a sick toddler instead of gallivanting across the ocean as planned. Then I got an ear infection and had to stay out of the sun completely because of the antibiotics – said antibiotics then caused a bizarre side effect in that for the past two days I have woken up with my hands swollen and stiff to the point where I couldn’t move them without intense pain. NOT exactly what I had planned for my beach vacation, but at the same time I learned to take things in stride and see the silver lining of the (albeit white and fluffy) clouds.
Yesterday I delivered the seminar “Achieving Breakthrough Customer Service” to a group of 17 business people at the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce. Again it was not quite what I expected – more talking from me and less participation because the group took a while to warm up. The last ten minutes were great, with people sharing best practices of customer service, and talking about various ways to change a culture where “top-down” is just frustrating for the people at the bottom. Thanks to everyone who attended for being a welcoming audience!
I’ve been using a deck of Virtues Reflections Cards in my office. At quiet moments I will select a card from my shuffled deck and pause to read the reflection and affirmations. Things that have come up for me recently include Thankfulness, Creativity and Grace. I think I’m going to incorporate the use of these cards into my one-on-one planning sessions with individual business owners, building on the Visual Life Inventory model that I started developing with Melissa.
Here’s what I’m trying to attract right now: My husband and I are seeking to buy our first house. We’re looking for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom townhouse or house in the Fernwood area that is in good, livable condition, under $400K. If you know someone who’s thinking about selling a place like this and just not sure if it’s the right time, please connect us because it could be we’re meant to be the next owners of that home!
